Labour teams in Dover, Deal and villages have been really busy this summer knocking on doors across the constituency and listening to the issues residents care most about. We’ve also been delivering our fab new leaflet about the NHS and how waiting times at our nearest A&Es are some of the longest in the whole of the UK.
What we hear from residents every week is that many long-running traffic and parking problems are not being resolved by the Tory-led district and county councils. In Deal we hear a lot of people tell us how disappointed they are about the district council selling off public assets for private, corporate gain where the public gain no benefit, entertainment or other use of the sold asset.
We also hear a lot about air pollution in Dover, cuts to school budgets across the district, the lack of police and how most residents are shocked by the massive fall in officer numbers since 2010.
What we hear in the villages is the real sadness at the closure of key services, such as doctors surgeries and dentists. We also hear again and again how let down people feel by KCC’s ruthless slashing of bus services; this of course, as most residents know and tell us, has been made to happen by huge Conservative government cuts in funding to local authorities.
We – your Labour team – are listening and standing up for the issues that matter to you. We are putting community concerns right at the heart of our local agenda and national policy.
